JCPenney Mastercard Password

PostNov 7th, 2005 | Comments (133)
I have a JCPenney Mastercard. (Don't ask why.) I wanted to check my current balance, and I was too lazy to go leaf through my stack of statements on the other site of the room, so I went to the JCPenney website to see if they had an online account area. Sure enough, they do. It shouldn't surprise me these days when credit card companies allow me to pay and view statements online, but I was still legitimately suprised. But while signing up for an account my happy surprise turned to incredulity.

They have the most ridiculous password selection limitations I have ever seen:

First off, I can't stand it when companies tell me what my password has to be. If I want my password to be "123," that should be my choice. Imposing a minimum eight-character limit doesn't create a more secure password. It's probably less secure. Because if you force someone to have an eight character password, chances are that person is going to choose an eight character password. If you give a person the option of choosing a password of any length, who knows how long that person's password is going to be?

Having said that, I'm used to sites (especially banks) forcing me to have a password that's at least eight characters. And I'm even used to the few sites that force me to throw in a number or two. But JCPenney takes it a step further and forces you to have at least two numbers in the middle of your password. Simply baffling.

JCPenney is definitely keeping their credit card site secure - secure from their own customers, because I'm sure as hell not going to remember the password they just forced me to create.

They just redesigned the site, it's all brand new. Keep a spreadsheet with all your passwords. It's hardly a hassle... you should not be using the same userID/passwords on any two sites anyway, which I have to think you're doing if you're not already tracking them.
Hugh E RootNov 14, 2005
I tried to create a password and couldn't get any thing to happen.
sprinterDec 8, 2005
if they let you put in 123 for a password and your account got hacked im sure you would be the first one to say the system was not very secure and it was them not you at fault
Jamie TibbettsDec 8, 2005
If someone uses 123 as their password, and their account gets hacked, their stupidity is to blame, not the system. Same as if the system requires an 8-character password, and someone chooses 12345678.

The system is there to provide password protection. It is up to the user to choose a secure password.
KITTDec 21, 2005
How do you get a JCPenney Mastercard anyway?
ctoddJan 1, 2006
I agree with the complaint from the poster about the absolutely ridiculous password nonsense JC Penney is using. It is so difficult and nonsensical I am going to cancel this card (as soon as I pay it off!). What's good enough for AmEx should surely be good enough for JC PENNEY!
carolynJan 7, 2006
Can't get online. This is my first time trying.
I originally registered my JC Penney card online and encountered no problems. Now that they upgraded me to a JC Penney MasterCard I have been unable to get back into my account. Unfortunately, my JCP MC is in Michigan and I am in Florida -- so I can't re-register, and my mail is taking 10-12 days to get forwarded to me in Florida. I am concerned my payments will be LATE and have no recourse but to find a JCP store in Florida in order to make timely payments! What a royal mess this JCP MC has turned out to be for me!
MYEJan 30, 2006
Hate to tell you this Maggie...but you can't make a payment with a JCP MC to an actual store...already tried it! It must be sent or paid on-line!
lolaApr 10, 2006
I agree that the "two numbers in the middle" is really getting a bit ridiculous, but my main problem with the site has been not being able to get onto the damn thing even after I've gone to that trouble. I've probably created 5 different username/password sets at this point because every time I go back to the site after creating one, it forces me to the "new user" screen yet again. I've about given up on the website, and if I can't get my account info online, I'm not sure I want to be bothered with the card at all.

Martha M ThompsonApr 14, 2006
Why oh why did I ever make this purchase.
I opened my account over 30 years ago. I never had this much trouble making a payment in all those years. A better site needs to be created in order to better serve your customers
TracieApr 25, 2006
The guy on the phone4 told me I could make my payment on line. I typed in the site listed on the bill (jcpenney.com) and was told it no longer existed!

SandyDec 12, 2006
JCP card payments can be made online or in the store but not JCP Mastercard. JCP Mastercard has no affiliation with JCP except to have their logo on it. The mastercard comes in the mail and unless you call and say you don't want it, mastercard will issue you the JCP mastercard. The store has nothing to do with that process.
ZachDec 13, 2006
I have to admit, I have sought the ellusive JC Penney Mastercard since the early nineties -and STILL DO NOT have any idea how to apply or obtain one. I know they USED to exist, but Im not so sure now in 2006. It has to be by invitation only??!! I was issued the Gold "Preferred" card recently, I think I may be able to get the Platinum this next year ( I like and support JCP by shopping there a lot) and perhaps I can be upgraded to their Mastercard? I only know that several years ago, say in 1997, when JCPenney National Bank issued their OWN cards (before being sold to GE Money) their credit limits were MUCH MUCH more generous and the card as a whole was much better. Now, GE MOney is a Piece of Sh8t and I try to avoid all issuers that do use them - many, many private labeled cards nowdays. If anyone has conclusive info. on HOW to obtain or apply for the JCPenney MASTERCARD, Email me PLEASE. Thanks all. Zach
pennyJan 12, 2007
jcpenneymastercard.com is impossible to pay online. They are full of shit, I think they like you to be late to put more money in late fees in their pockets.
JaneJan 15, 2007
This message is for "Zach": You can't apply for a JCP MC - it's offered via direct mail to JCP PLCC (private label credit card) holders who haven't used their regular JCP card in a long time - ususally more that 18 months. It's a tool that GEMB uses to get long-inactives with good FICO scores to start spending money on one of their card products again. It's not something that you're "upgraded" to - the Platinum-level PLCC has the best benefits offered by the all the JCP credit cards.
Hope this helps.

Type jcpenneymastercard.com in Google. Look for JCPDUAL. a total of less than 2 mins to register and pay my bill last month and less than 45 seconds the last two payments made. Was always late by mailing I guess they never opened payments until after known due date.

JCPENNEYS ARE A BUNCH OF SUCKERS - AFTER I PAY THEM OFF - I WILL CUT THEIR CARD UP. IT HAS BEEN 2 WEEKS AND THEY STILL SAY THEY HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY PAYMENT. CHU CHING - ANOTHER LATE FEE!!!!
MaggieApr 26, 2007
Does anyone else have trouble getting the jcpenneymastercard.com site to load? It seems to be offline most of the time, although I haven't tried it at 3 AM, maybe there is a wee window to access it then. No kidding, at least half the time the site won't load. You'd think a big company like JCP would do better with their online presence. :/
DaveMay 6, 2007
Thank heaven I found this thread. I thought I was the only one having problems with JCP. I have attempted 3 TIMES to satisfy my entire balance and nothing has happened. In addition I have a third party calling service calling numerous times a week asking when I would like to pay my bill!! WTF??!!

If you type www.jcpenneymastercard.com/ in your browser you will be redirected to: https://www.onlinecreditcenter2.com/consumergen2/login.do?subActionId=1000&clientId=jcpenney&accountType=dualcard&landingpg=9300 -- I tried to register a long time ago and it wanted my SS#! I've never had to enter my SS# for any other credit card website ever - not even for my banking! I chose not to register on their site for this very reason. I use my banking online payment service - NOT THE JCPENNEY WEBSITE - to make my JCPenny MC payments and I highly recommend that anyone else do the same if you have it available.

Who is the idiot that desighed this web site. The reason for computers is to have rapid correct info fast and get the job done. It takes forever to pay the bill. This is bs. Does jc penney want its customers to be upset or make extra bucks on late fee. This is the worst payment site I deal with. I know where I WONT be shopping. Remember the rule of thumb Less bunk on a page is more and be to the point. Change this monster.
yOUR SECURITY INTO MY CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT STINKS..DIDNT WANT TO USE IT ANYWAY.. BAH HUMBUG
TommyJul 12, 2007
Usually pay all my accounts via US mail exactly because it is less of a hassle to download the sites and also because I'm from the "old school" and worry about the security issues. However I overlooked the JCPmastercard account this month and on due date I am having the most difficult time trying to pay these folks online. I agree this is the WORST!!
JulieJul 26, 2007
WOW! I have the answer according to the 866-227-5213# & it worked. You have to type the address in the address box, not the search area. They want www.jcpenneymastercard.com and it takes you to thier secure area. Yes they want your 1st born in the info department and I told them that was alot of info just to give out and she assured me they site is secure. She even sat on the phone w/me & described each area be4 I typed my info in. Anyway I hope this helps everyone, if not you have a phone #.

I can't even get my acct registered online! I have been trying for about half and hour now to get out account registered so I would have online access to our info, and to register the account you must enter the acct number, which is 11 digits, but each time I try I get an error message stating that the account number must not be less than 14 digits! They assigned the account number, so shouldn't it be correct???

I have been shopping with JCPenney for many years. They offered me the mastercard to replace their credit card, so they cancelled my credit account and gave me a mastercard. Boy I wish I could have had a crystal ball to see the future. They or I should I say the idiots that developed the website obviously don't want us to get in there. Every month I have to sit here at the computer and pay bills and can't get in to their account as usual. It makes me feel like a dummy. I agree with everyone else GET IF FIXED OR YOU WILL BE LOSING SOME GOOOD CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to admit paying on line with a JC Penney Mastercard on line is a joke. The password set they have is a joke. Passwords are hard enough to remember let alone trying to remember some with two numbers in the middle. Its secure alright from everyone even all customers. Anyway to complain to someone to change or do something about this on line bill pay since you can't pay in the store, found that out the hard way and even the clerk didn't know why it wouldn't take may payment. A manager had to be called over to figure it out and she only figured it out by reading that information on my bill. What a joke. I don't know how we are to pay with no options but on line and us postal mail. And if you forget your password, with your email address being your work address and your at home using a lap top. Forget ever finding your password out. signed VERY UPSET CUSTOMER.

GO TO THE WEBSITE WWW.JCPENNEY.COM and then at the bottom of page push credit. It will show a box for what account.Put in your 16 digit number and it will revert to the mastercard payment. Not hard at all
woodyJan 4, 2008
The website you are trying to get is www.jcp.com/credit.It is not that hard to write your password down and put in in a place you are comfortable with. There you will be able to answer your questions for what you seek.
MonikaJan 8, 2008
Woody is right!

All I want to add is that you need to call the 1-800 number first to give them your mother's maiden name. They need to file that before you can register for their online service.

debbie m.Feb 15, 2008
this is the same debbie from feb. 15. one thing that should be understood, is that if you need to call ahead and give your mother's maiden name, it should clearify that off the bat. i pay four credit cards an line. no problem. it is not a matter of being too simple for the card holders to grasp, it's a matter of the company being too simple to grasp the idea of making changes to make their card holders on-line paying an easy experiance, instead of pissing them off to the point of cancelling their cards!! on line payment should be a conveniance, not an ordeal!!

JCPenny Mastercard is the most difficult card I have ever tried to pay on line, as others have mentioned, you can't pay at the store. I agree after speaking /w customer service, this card should be reported to the BBB.

I am attempting to check the balance of my 92YO mothers account and agree JCP sucks as does any store you find in a mall. Because of the problems I had with my Sears
card account, I do not go to malls.
I buy all my cloths on line from sportsmansguide.com as they sell great quality cheaper then JCP or Sears and the website is hassel free. Plus they ship fast and never a problem returning items. Drop these turkeys as they do not deserve your business.

I have a User name & Password for JCPenny Mastercard. However, it seems now that I need a different password; it must have 8 letters with no numbers at beginning or end. I'm willing to do that;however, the site where you put in the password is not working. I want to see my account. How do I get into it?

I am so tired of this JC Penney mastercard, I have had this card for a long time and evertime I call with a problem I get someone in India and cannot understand a thing they say! Also, they always tell me the number I give them on my card is not the right number... well it is the number on the card... what the heck??? I am so done with this card... tired of the late fees which should not be being charged... I have nver paid a payment late, but still get charged for late fees!! I'm soooo done!

It is impossible to pay online. It is a hit or miss site. Sometimes up but most of the time down. As far as passwords, if someone can hack, a password won't stop them. If we keep a file of passwords, then isn't that file subject to access. Let face it! If you put it out there on the internet, it is fairgame to anyone who knows how to get it. And folks, there is nothing you can do to stop it. Besides, the we need to worry about our own government. All this online, paperless, and soon to be digital money is subject to our government taking what they want, when they want and from whom they want. So brace yourseld. As we move towards implementation of this new health bill and socialism, the government will find a way of accessing and using our money for their personal power and gain. As CBS, ABC and NBC continue to be the government bought media and our president sneaks in anti-gun laws, we will soon lose our only personal protection against our government. Cell phones can be tapped and screened in the name of national security. Don't worry about the little stuff like password protection. You need to start thinking of how we are going to protect ourselves against our own government! Laugh at me now. Cry later!
