In-game advertising is heading for the casual gaming market thanks to Shockwave.com's new Immersive Network.
Ad placement in console games has been around for while, but this is the first big push to get them into online casual games.
Casual gaming sites already feature banners on their sites and flash ads while games load, but this will be one of the first big pushes to get ads into the games themselves. Things are still a bit rough around the edges, however:

Web-based casual games portal Shockwave.com announced today an in-game advertising network for the company's titles that will ultimately offer advertisers more than 50 million ad impression opportunities a month.

AdWatch tested out the wakeboarding title and found that the ads were essentially bright yellow Sprint-branded textures on top of an otherwise wooden-looking ramp.
