Here's a very handy key combo that lets you delete emails immediately in OS X's Mail.app without having to do the ol' two-step (send it to the trash and then delete it again).

Delete email immediately in Mail: command-option-delete

Note: That's the small "delete" key under the "help" key not the big "delete" key next to the "equal/plus" key.
